Summary of the study: The purpose of this study is to assess food and beverage preferences. We expect to collect data from 100 individuals that are between the ages of 18-25 and residing in Canada. In this study, you will be asked to participate in a survey which will take a total of approximately 30 minutes to complete. There is no physical, psychological or social risk to you when participating in this study. Participation is voluntary. You may choose to stop participating at any time. Please read the material below if you are interested in participating in this study.
Eligibility criteria: Individuals that are between the ages of 18-25 and residing in Canada.
What to expect: By participating in this study, you will fill out a survey that will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will be asked to provide your email, year of birth, country of residence, gender, ethnicity, and survey responses. The survey will ask you to rate a series of statements about different food and beverage products by clicking “I like this” or “I do not like this.”
The following is an example of a possible statement that may appear on the survey:

Healthful yogurt: Thick with lots of real fruit on the bottom.

What will happen to the information collected in this study: The
information collected will be kept confidential. All records, including demographic data will be stored on a secured Ryerson Google Shared Drive that is protected by end-to-end encryption and two-factor authentication. Only the researchers listed here, Dr. Nick Bellissimo, Dr. Howard Moskowitz and Sophia Davidov, will have access to this shared drive. If you choose to stop participating in this study, your data will not be stored. Your email will be collected and put into a draw for an iPad, upon completion of the survey. You can withdraw at any time if you feel uncomfortable, do not want to provide information, or do not want to answer survey questions, by exiting the internet browser. Withdrawal from the study will not influence future relations with the researchers or Ryerson University.
Data dissemination: A manuscript of the study results, utilizing aggregate and de-identified data, will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. If you are interested in reading the results after they are published, please contact us via email (provided above).
The benefits to you if you take part in this study: There is no direct benefit to you for completing this study. However, your participation will help us provide valuable information for stakeholders who are interested in optimizing the production of, and messaging around, food and beverage products. All measurements are for research purposes only, i.e., they are not diagnostic.
What will you receive for taking part in this study: After completing the study, your email address will be put into a draw for an iPad, as an incentive for participating in the study. If you choose to withdraw from the study, prior to completing and successfully submitting the survey, you will not be entered in the draw. The raffle will be conducted on or before February 1, 2022. We will notify the winner via email and the tablet will be delivered by Canada Post.
Risks: There is a known risk for the release of personal information during online study administration. All of the information collected during this study will be kept strictly confidential and used for research purposes only. Data will be secured on a password protected server and only the researchers will have access. Your personal information will not be recorded or used in the reporting of information in publications or conference presentations.

Project Title: Determining the Global Distribution of Physical/Social Distancing Mindsets

Summary of the study: The purpose of this study is to determine the mindsets of individuals regarding physical/social distancing during COVID-19. We hope to receive surveys from at least 10,000 respondents. In this survey, you will be asked 10 survey questions. After completion of this study, you will be provided with your physical/social distancing mindset. All measurements are for research purposes only, i.e. they are not diagnostic. There is no physical, psychological or social risk to you when participating in this study. Participation is voluntary. You may choose to stop participating at any time. Please read the material below if you are interested in participating in this study.

What to expect: By participating in this study you will fill out a survey that will take approximately 1 minute to complete. You will be asked to provide your email, year of birth, postal code, gender, ethnicity, and survey responses.

What will happen to the information collected in this study: The information collected will be kept confidential. All records, including demographic data will be stored in a secure location. If you choose to stop participating in this study, your data will be destroyed. Your email will be used to follow up with you for participation in future studies, provide your survey results, and enter you into a draw to win an iPad. Your postal code will be used to identify your geographical location for the purposes of data analysis. You can withdraw at any time if you feel uncomfortable, do not want to provide information, or do not want to answer survey questions by exiting the internet browser.

The benefits to you if you take part in this study: There is no direct benefit to you for completing this study, however, your participation will help us provide valuable information to stakeholders and policy makers regarding physical/social distancing messaging that may improve compliance during COVID-19 and future outbreaks. All measurements are for research purposes only, i.e. they are not diagnostic.

What will you receive for taking part in this study: After completion of the study, your email will be entered into a draw to win an Apple Air iPad.

Risks: There is a known risk for the release of personal information during online study administration. All of the information collected during this study will be kept strictly confidential and used for research purposes only. Data will be secured on a password protected server and only the researchers will have access. Your personal information will not be recorded or used in the reporting of information in publications or conference presentations.

Conflict of Interest: The researchers have no conflicts of interest in performing this study.
